Assuring Height Safety Compliance at St Catherine’s Aged Care Facility

Aged Care Facility Height Safety

While we are well known for manufacturing bespoke height safety systems for tall buildings, we also conduct thousands of site inspections and certifications around Australia each year. Our team of fully trained inspectors provide thorough assessment of all height safety structures to ensure they meet Australian/New Zealand Standards.

We pride ourselves on building long-standing relationships with our clients to ensure that the process of annual inspections is smooth-sailing, as we build a familiarity with our clients and with the structures themselves. Ensuring the compliance of a commercial structure – that is, ensuring it is equipped with appropriate safety systems – is essential for the protection of full-time workers and contractors who come to work on site.

RISSafety recently carried out an annual safety inspection of VMCH St Catherine’s Aged Care facility in Balwyn, Victoria. Says St Catherine’s maintenance manager, Vincenzo Russo: “I’ve dealt with RISSafety a couple of times and all the times I’ve dealt with them for inspections it’s always been a good experience.”

RISSafety recertification technicians Andrew and Phil inspected the building’s anchor point system and found that the install and layout, as well as anchor type, were not suitable for the structure. Vincenzo was informed immediately of the issue and advised on next steps, which included submitting a claim and undertaking immediate repairs to the existing anchor point system.

Vincenzo trusted the advice of our team, backed by decades of knowledge and expertise in site safety, as well as understanding of legal requirements. “There’s a few bits Andrew and Phil picked up on which we’ve had resolved quickly, which was great and gives us peace of mind.”

Now that the site and height safety requirements are compliant, future inspections will be easier, as will ongoing maintenance of equipment. “It is important to have a long-standing relationship with a height safety provider,” says Vincenzo, “especially when the task is so important, and they are easy to deal with.”

Our relationships with our clients are vital to the ongoing growth of our business and in ensuring our long-held reputation as the leader in height safety systems in Australia. “I would recommend working with RISSafety, because of the work they do and the high level of service,” says Vincenzo. “They are very professional to deal with.”

What Near Misses Can Reveal About Your Height Safety Culture

A worker clips a static line to an anchor point that hasn’t been inspected in over a year. A roofer steps around a guardrail rather than through the designated access point because it’s faster. A maintenance technician nearly loses footing on a wet roof surface – catches themselves – and says nothing because it doesn’t seem worth the paperwork. Read More

Permanent Access Platform for Hilton Surfers Paradise

There’s a particular challenge that comes with working at height in a premium hotel environment. The solution has to work, every single time, for years to come, and it can’t look like an afterthought bolted onto a building that guests pay quite a large amount to stay in. When fire damage compromised the rope… Read More
