Temporary Edge Protection for Major Resort Renovations

When it came to a major refurbishment of the 17-story resort The Catalina on the Sunshine Coast needed to  work with someone that would take a customised  approach to temporary edge protection. The brief was somewhat different as the renovations needed to take place on all 17 floors of the resort and they needed to ensure it remained operational in that time. This meant minimal impact on residents and holiday makers, so the temporary edge protection needed to ensure the safety of both the workers and the residents. On top of the above, it was also decided that renovation work would progress floor by floor so the temporary edge protection needed to be flexible, mobile and easy to move and ensure debris protection for the site and occupants.

At RISSafety we love to take on a challenge and a couple of reasons why our clients like to work with us is our customer centric approach and specialisation in bespoke and customised safety solutions. No job is ever the same and it is our customer-centric approach that really sets us apart. On this project we had a dedicated team who consulted with the client from design stage through to mobilisation and completion of the project and we provided ongoing service delivery throughout the project.

The solution for this project was as follows:

  • Installation of 80m safety nets with debris mesh.
  • Safety nets that encapsulated two floors at a time.
  • The nets were rigged so they could be dropped between floors, making it easy to move when renovations went to the next floor.
  • We designed a counterweight guardrails system for the roof terrace.
  • We also designed net entry gates to access from the mast climber.

The result for our client was a safe and flexible? temporary edge protection system. The resort was able to remain open for business with minimal impact on the residents and a safety system that could be moved from floor to floor.

At RISSafety all our height safety systems meet or even exceeds all Australian standards. But our strength lies in our internal design and manufacturing capabilities so regardless of what your requirement is, we can develop a customised system to solve your height safety needs. So if you need help on your next project contact us today.
