Supporting South Australia’s emergency response begins with safety at every level, including roof access.
Minuzzo Project Management engaged RISSafety to design and install a compliant roof safety system at the new Gawler State Emergency Service (SES) Operations Building and Appliance Building in Willaston, SA.
As a roof safety specialist serving the Adelaide region, our goal was to deliver safe and efficient access for routine maintenance, particularly gutter cleaning and solar servicing, while meeting the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) G190 Guideline and best practices for roof safety systems in Adelaide.
The new SES facilities support critical emergency services for the Gawler region. This includes any roof access solution necessary to protect workers, preserve the integrity of the buildings, and easily facilitate day‑to‑day maintenance.
RISSafety’s scope covered design, supply and installation of a fully compliant system that would be simple to use and durable in South Australian conditions.
The challenge
- Provide safe access for gutter maintenance and solar panel servicing.
- Ensure the design aligns with the DIT G190 Guideline.
- Keep the system intuitive for a range of users (contractors and facility teams) without compromising safety or compliance.
- Maintain the building’s appearance and weatherproofing while creating clear, controlled access paths.
Our solution
To satisfy the G190 requirements and the site’s operational needs, RISSafety designed an integrated solution combining engineered access pathways with fall‑protection and hazard mitigation components:
- Perimeter static lines anchored to certified roof anchor points to enable continuous, secure attachment while navigating roof edges.
- Levelled aluminium roof walkway systemand additional aluminium walkways to define safe travel routes, minimise roof loading on sheet profiles, and reduce slip risk during wet or dusty conditions.
- 3‑metre guardrail landing kit (aluminium handrail) with a self‑closing gate at key transition points, creating a controlled zone for stepping on and off the roof.
- Skylight crossovers to remove trip and fall hazards where fragile or raised features interrupt the travel path.
- Roof‑to‑roof stepladders for safe transitions between roof levels without the need for temporary access equipment.
The results
Each height safety design was carefully selected and positioned to balance safe mobility, ease of use, and long‑term maintainability.
This roof safety solution is now a coherent system that guides users along designated routes, keeps them permanently protected, and supports efficient inspection and maintenance workflows.

Compliance and ongoing inspections
To ensure installations are safe and compliant over time, RISSafety offers height safety inspections, including height safety equipment inspections, anchor point inspections, and fall protection inspection services.
These programs support the correct use of static lines, walkways and guardrails, and ensure that harness-based systems are maintained for competent users working at height.
Final Project Outcome: A complete roof safety solution
- Fully compliant with DIT G190:the system design and installed components align with the G190 Guideline for gutter and solar access.
- Safe, efficient maintenance: clearly defined routes and permanent protection minimise setup time and reduce the likelihood of unsafe shortcuts.
