RISsafety (RIS) is Australia’s leading owned designer, manufacturer and installer of height safety and access systems. From our Wetherill Park manufacturing facility, we support projects across mining, industrial and commercial sectors nationwide.
We are strengthening our engineering capability and are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead structural design and support the strategic growth of the business.
About the Role
Based in Wetherill Park this is a pivotal senior position reporting directly to the Technical Manager. You will act as the internal structural authority, leading design, compliance and technical sign-off across our access systems including platforms, stairs, ladders, gantries and bespoke fabricated structures.
This role suits a commercially minded engineer who will play a critical role in strengthening internal technical authority, improving delivery turnaround, and supporting the expansion of the company’s engineering capability.
The role has a strong focus on research and development, including leading the design and development of new products, enhancing existing systems, and engineering solutions to expand the company’s technical offering and proprietary capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the internal structural authority, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards including Australian Standards – AS1657, AS-NZS1891, AS-NZS5532, AS-NZS1170, the NCC, and other relevant codes.
- Lead structural design for access systems including platforms, ladders, stairs, gantries, and associated structures
- Prepare, review, and sign off on structural calculations, technical reports, and supporting documentation.
- Provide technical advice to internal teams, clients and consultants
- Support tender reviews, technical proposals and pre-contract design input and RFI responses
- Liaise with internal engineers, designers, authorities, and clients to support strong working relationships.
- Lead the R&D Team in the development of new product initiatives from conception through to market.
About You
Qualifications & Registration
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering
- Mandatory professional registration: NER, RPEQ, CPEng, and/or MIEAust.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 8–10 years structural engineering experience in a construction and building related environments
- Sound understanding of NER requirements, compliance, and third-party certification processes.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, NCC and certification pathways
- Extensive technical expertise in structural design, particularly aluminium and facade structures.
- Strong leadership capability, able to mentor engineers and work effectively with designers, architects, and project managers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage confidently with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities
- Proficiency with structural analysis and drafting tools such as SpaceGass (or similar), AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Revit
