RISSafety: Creating customised safety solutions for a Victorian hospital

RISSafety recently delivered a complex suite of facility management safety solutions at John Fawkner Private Hospital in Coburg, Victoria. The ageing facility had several non-compliant safety assets, access issues, and communication infrastructure challenges, which RISSafety addressed with bespoke solutions.

The challenge

The hospital management team identified three primary issues:

 1. Multiple access problems: Various areas of the hospital were difficult or unsafe to access, posing risks to maintenance staff and potentially impacting patient care.

 2. Non-compliant safety assets: Existing safety equipment and systems failed to meet current Australian safety standards.

 3. Communication infrastructure access: Safer and more efficient access to specific areas were required to maintain and upgrade vital communication systems.

These challenges posed safety risks and hindered the hospital’s ability to operate efficiently and provide optimal patient care.

RISSafety’s approach

RISSafety’s team of experts approached the project with a client-centric strategy that began with a thorough assessment to identify all access issues, non-compliant assets, and areas requiring improved communication infrastructure access.

Following the assessment, RISSafety engaged in extensive collaborative planning, holding discussions with the hospital’s facility management team to prioritise areas for improvement and determine the most critical issues to address. This collaborative approach ensured that the solutions would meet safety standards and align with the hospital’s specific needs.

Based on the assessment and client input, RISSafety developed customised solutions to each challenge. The range of solutions included replacing outdated access systems with modern, compliant alternatives and installing new safety railings and gantries in high-risk areas.

RISSafety implemented fall protection systems in areas with significant height risks and upgraded existing safety equipment to meet current Australian safety standards.

We also designed and installed specialised access systems for communication equipment areas, addressing the needs of the hospital’s infrastructure.

This approach demonstrated RISSafety’s commitment to delivering holistic safety solutions tailored to the client’s requirements.

Project highlights

During the implementation phase, the RISSafety team demonstrated skill and innovation in overcoming the challenges of the hospital’s age and complex layout.

The team enabled more efficient maintenance of critical systems by providing custom-designed access solutions. This improvement will significantly reduce downtime and enhance overall hospital operations, a crucial factor in a healthcare setting where uninterrupted service is paramount.

One of the project’s most impressive aspects was the team’s ability to complete the extensive work with minimal disruption to the hospital’s daily activities. This achievement underscores RISSafety’s expertise in managing complex projects in sensitive environments.

The newly installed systems were designed with scalability and future-proofing in mind, ensuring the hospital receives long-term value from its investment. This forward-thinking approach aligns with the evolving needs of modern healthcare facilities.

The client expressed great satisfaction with the improvements made to the system and access in the targeted areas.

The team exhibited skill and determination in successfully installing assets in some particularly tricky areas, which is a testament to their expertise and dedication to the project’s success.
