Inertia Reels

An inertia reel is a self-retracting lifeline which is a fall arrest device. It incorporates a fast-activating braking system to arrest and limit certain types of falls to just a few centimetres. At the same time, it reduces the physical forces associated with fall arrest. Wearers are always protected, but their movement and job activities are not restricted or otherwise compromised by the fall arrest system.

Unlike height safety harness systems, inertia reel fall restraint devices are not designed to provide continuous support and should never be relied upon as a working support while at height.
